It all started when…

I ate & drank my way around europe with zero abandon, and returned from the holiday looking & feeling like a Bloated potato gnocchi (or dumpling - same, same).

I looked at this photo of me “sliding” off a boat in Greece and felt awful.

I was already over my “normal” weight before I left - I’d bought larger sizes to see me through the trip. Then I (impressively) put on an additional 3 kgs after the holiday!

I was the biggest I’d ever been. Friends (kind ones) kept saying they couldn’t see it - but my background as a fashion stylist meant I knew how to hide it through clever dressing.

Confidence wise I was rock bottom. I felt middle aged and dumpy. Younger, more polished, sophisticated girls swanned through the office, making me feel irrelevant and invisible.

Healthwise, I struggled to walk up a couple of sets of stairs without feeling puffed. Even though I’ve always been a small build, I was clearly just unfit.

i knew something had to change.

And that’s when I rejoined The FASTer Way To Fat Loss - an online, American based program that takes sound, sensible concepts wrapped in the warm loving arms of structure and an easy to follow format + some pretty incredible community and program support. I’ve been an on / off client since 2019. In 2023, I recommitted for good, to take back control of my health & fitness.

So I showed up daily. For no one but myself.

For the first month, I simply focused on improving ONE thing a week.

  • Week 1 - I cut out all the wine I was drinking on a daily basis (although I have reintroduced drinking, it is significantly less).

  • Week 2 - I intermittent fasted (I eat in a window between 12pm and 8pm).

  • Week 3 - I focused on eating clean, whole foods & more protein.

  • Week 4 - I turned up to the (at home, app based) workouts. I HATE exercise. Breaking a sweat was never my thing.

    But I showed up. And the workouts were so convenient to do from home that I didn’t have any excuse to NOT turn up. Even as I flapped my arms and legs around most days - I just KEPT MOVING.

I kept telling myself “Just be CONSISTENT, even if it’s not perfect"!”

and it all fell into place

I LOST an inch or two off my wobbly belly and thighs. I GAINED an inch of muscle mass on my puny, tiny arms.

Importantly - it is a sustainable lifestyle and not a diet, so I don’t feel deprived. I eat carbs. I have sweet treats and wine. I eat pizza and chocolate. Sure, I don’t have it every day, but it is all balanced.

Mostly, I LOVE the workouts. 30 mins at home, 3- 5 x per week. Super fast, super convenient. For someone who hated exercise, every time I finish a workout, I realise how much it helps my mental happiness. I feel better, I start the day right, and I love feeling stronger and fitter.

My cardiovascular heart health has improved. I no longer puff on stairs (I puff in the workouts though!!!!). I can squat for days (I imagine this will be helpful when I am trying to get off the couch at 80 years old). And I can lift heavy. I feel strong and lean!

Now that my new lifestyle is intuitive to me, I can enjoy a day off here and there, and have a social life with my friends and family. I can do this with confidence because I know I have a blueprint to get me right back on track the next day. It’s been a terrific balance for me.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The main principles of the FASTer Way To Fat Loss are:

    We eat a lot. But we eat well. We balance macros - i.e. carbs, fats (yes, good fats!) and focus on protein, to help build and replenish muscle mass (we lose a LOT of muscle each year we’re over 40! We also need muscle to BURN FAT).

  2. Intermittent fasting

    No, we don’t fast all day!!! Most of us fast for 12 - 16 hours a day and eat in a window of between 12-8 hours a day (eg. I eat between 12pm and 8pm most days, which is very do-able!). Fasting helps your body reset, repair and helps support increased energy levels.

  3. Carb cycling

    In the FASTer Way To Fat Loss we have 2 x low carb days and 5 x normal carb days a week (yes, this means you can eat rice, potatoes and even bread and pasta!). This is a strategy called carb cycling. It trains our bodies to burn fat, especially when we pair our low / regular carb days with specific workouts to maximise fat burn and energy levels.

  4. Strategic workouts

    All our workouts are designed to fit your busy schedule. Access daily, 30-minute workouts that you can do at home with minimal equipment. We’re too busy to be doing endless hours of cardio - so you’ll be done within 30 mins, with effective workouts designed to maximise fat burn (if you’re a beginner, don’t worry - there are low impact modifications shown in every workout!).
